Why your child should sleep alone

James has completed two years two months ago and I fed it for six months, no more sleep I would not say that "we were unlucky" - even if there are children who sleep more hours than he to this' age-because it is a peaceful child, both day and night, long sleep in his room and falls asleep alone in bed, but every time he is evil or that we change habits (holidays, weekends away, etc.) back to wake up one or more times per night. In the latter period, in the case of more than two awakenings per night for me (the third) I took him to stay in Latvia doing with mom and dad, more for my convenience than for a sua esplicita richiesta.

Recentemente ho avuto un'interessante discussione su questo argomento con la pediatra di mio figlio, che mi ha spiegato che quando il bambino è autonomo dal punto di vista alimentare (cioè non prende più il latte della mamma ma mangia da solo i cibi solidi) non c'è più necessità che dorma con la mamma. 

Io le ho accennato alle teorie sul co-sleeping e che secondo me la società attuale tende spesso a snaturare il rapporto tra madre e figlio inducendo dei comportamenti dettati da schemi mentali (antiquati) che finiscono con infliggere sofferenze inutili a mandre e figlio senza avere reali benefici.  Capisco che debba imparare a dormire da solo ma è adesso il momento migliore? Che danno faccio se lo metto a letto con noi qualche volta?
Lei mi ha spiegato che oltre ad instaurare un'abitudine che poi è spesso difficile da eliminare (ed in effetti ho sentito di bambini che a dieci anni dormono ancora con i genitori!) è una questione di igiene: a meno di non fare una doccia o un bagno ogni sera (inclusi i capelli!) noi portiamo a letto le scorie di inquinamento dell'aria cittadina (se viviamo in campagna ci possono essere i fumi del camino) quindi il nostro letto di solito non è un ambiente salubre per un bambino, oltre a ciò con due persone adulte che respirano -ed emettono anidride carbonica- tutta la notte, alla fine nella nostra camera ci può facilmente esere una carenza di ossigeno. Per questo è sicuramente meglio che lui dorma nella sua cameretta, dove anche il letto è della sua misura.
Mi ha convinto.
